What are Braces?

Braces are specialized orthodontic devices designed to gradually move and straighten your teeth, improving both appearance and oral hygiene.

In Singapore, braces are a common treatment option for children, students, and adults who want to achieve a healthier, more confident smile.

By applying gentle, consistent pressure, braces guide teeth into their ideal positions over time.

This not only enhances the look of your smile but also makes it easier to maintain good oral hygiene, as straight teeth are simpler to brush and floss.

Improved alignment from braces can help prevent tartar buildup, tooth decay, and gum disease, supporting your long-term dental health.

Whether you’re seeking orthodontic treatment for functional reasons or to boost your self-esteem, braces in Singapore offer a reliable solution for people of all ages.

Why Consider Braces?

Braces correct misaligned teeth, gaps, and bite issues such as overbite or underbite.

When your teeth are crowded or misaligned, braces help guide them into better positions.

They improve chewing, speech, and your overall confidence. Straighter teeth also make daily cleaning easier, reducing the risk of gum disease.

They are a proven solution for a wide range of dental alignment issues.

Types of Braces: Ceramic, Metal, and Clear Aligners

When considering braces in Singapore, you’ll find a variety of types to suit different needs and lifestyles.

Traditional metal braces are made from high-quality stainless steel and are known for their durability and effectiveness, especially for complex cases.

Ceramic braces offer a more discreet alternative, as their tooth-colored or clear brackets blend in with your natural teeth, making them a popular choice for adults and students who prefer a less noticeable look.

Clear aligners, such as Invisalign, are virtually invisible and removable, providing flexibility and comfort for those who want minimal impact on their daily routine.

Self-ligating braces, including self-ligating ceramic braces, use a special clip instead of elastic bands to hold the archwire, which can reduce friction and may shorten treatment time.

Each type of braces has its own advantages, and your orthodontist can help you choose the best option based on your needs, lifestyle, and budget.

Braces are not just for children or teens.

Adults of all ages can benefit too.

  • Adults: Discreet options like ceramic braces and clear aligners are available.

Effectiveness of Braces: Do Braces Really Work?

Braces are a proven and effective orthodontic treatment for correcting a wide range of teeth alignment issues.

Whether you’re dealing with spacing, crowding, overbite, underbite, crossbite, or open bite, braces can help guide your teeth into their proper positions.

The treatment works by using an archwire, which applies gentle pressure to the teeth, while brackets hold the wire in place and direct the movement.

Over time, this controlled force encourages the teeth and supporting structures to shift, resulting in a healthier and more attractive smile.

According to the American Association of Orthodontists, braces are a reliable treatment option for achieving lasting improvements in both dental function and appearance.

With regular care and follow-up from your dentist, braces can significantly enhance the alignment of your teeth and contribute to better oral health overall.

FAQ

Treatment time varies depending on the complexity of the case. During the consultation, our dentist will evaluate your case and provide you with an estimated duration. Generally, it takes approximately 12-24 months.

The interval for each visit depends on the type of braces treatment you are undergoing. For traditional metal braces, it will be every 4 weeks, whereas for self-ligating braces, it can be once every 6-8 weeks.

For clear aligners, the interval depends on the number of sets of trays issued to you.

With “extra” things in your mouth, speech may be altered at the start. Nonetheless, you will quickly adapt to it and be able to speak clearly again. For metal braces, it is also normal to experience ulceration but wax will be provided which can help you ease the condition.

With “extra” things in your mouth, more precautions should be taken especially when eating. Try to avoid hard food as it may break the wire or dislodge the brackets. Sticky and chewy food should be avoided too as they can stick to your braces and may be hard to remove.

Maintaining good oral hygiene and cleaning your teeth is very important, especially with braces on. Spend more time brushing your teeth and make use of interdental brush to clean the area in between your teeth and around the brackets.

For those who are more prone to decay, our dentist may advise you to use more fluoride mouth rinse too.

The exact price depends on the type of braces and the complexity of each case.

Our braces consultation is $200, comes with 2 different X-rays (OPG and Lat Ceph), study model impression and treatment planning with our doctor. From there, you will get a quotation for the entire treatment, which generally starts from $3,800 for traditional metal braces and $4,300 of self-ligating braces.

Note: Government Goods and Services Tax (GST) applies.

Dental treatments are generally not claimable under the Medisave scheme unless the treatment involves surgery and is performed due to medical reasons. Therefore, non-surgical dental treatments such as braces are not Medisave-claimable.

However, in the event of complex braces treatment whereby surgical procedure is required to expose unerupted teeth, the surgical fees may be Medisave-claimable.

Some discomfort is normal, especially after tightening or new trays.

This usually subsides in a few days.

CHAS may cover initial consultation and X-rays.

Medisave applies only if the treatment involves jaw surgery.

No. Clear retainers are included in your quoted price.
