Dentures are removable artificial teeth attached to a baseplate made of plastic and/or metal. A partial denture is fitted to replace some missing teeth while a full denture replaces the whole arch of teeth. Wearing dentures not only improve your appearance, but also aids in day to day functions such as speaking and eating.

What is the process of making dentures?

Fabrication of dentures usually takes a few visits to the clinic. During your first visit, your dentist will take an impression of your mouth to prepare for the denture. Subsequently, you will have to return for bite registration, try-in of the denture, before finally issuing you the actual denture.

It is common to feel uncomfortable with the new dentures at the beginning, but feel free to return for denture adjustment if required. It usually takes few days or even weeks and months to get comfortable to wearing them. Always remember to remove your dentures before sleeping.

Denture care

Taking good care of your denture is as important as taking care of your own teeth. They should be removed after every meal to wash off any food debris. Brush the denture gently with a soft toothbrush and soak it in a denture cleansing solution once a week to disinfect and clean the denture. When not wearing, always soak the denture in water to prevent it from losing its shape. Poor denture hygiene may result in stains, bad odor and oral infections
